“Hame”, the exhibition of my portraiture project where I engaged with neighbours in my street and one that adjoins, ends its run today at the Barony Centre in West Kilbride. As with many of my projects, there is a film which combines the exhibition images with recordings of the neighbours reflecting on what Hame means to them…
But although that part of Hame ends, a second part now takes over; reaching out through workshops and social media, I’ve invited the young people of WK to submit their own images that sum up their thoughts. This work is called “Oor Hame”, and after I spend the next week coordinating and printing the images, they will be exhibited in the shops of West Kilbride’s Main Street, turning the village into an open air gallery. Suzie (8) who featured with her family in my exhibition, has submitted her own take:

It’s been a highly enjoyable project… Making new connections with neighbours, strengthening already existing links…
So enjoyable, in fact, that I’ve taken the decision to continue the project. In the longer term I’m going to be working to extend my picture of Hame with people from all over my home village…
